Biography
Tony Danza received an Emmy Award nomination for a guest-starring
role in the series "The Practice" and critical acclaim for his
performance in the Broadway revival of 'Eugene O'Neill' (qv)'s "The
Iceman Cometh." He is best known, however, for his loveable sitcom
personae. Following a five-year run in _"Taxi" (1978)_ (qv), he
starred in _"Who's the Boss?" (1984)_ (qv) for eight seasons. He
also starred in the comedy series _"Hudson Street" (1995)_ (qv) and
_"Tony Danza Show, The" (1997)_ (qv), for which he was executive
producer. His additional television credits include an acclaimed
performance opposite 'George C. Scott' (qv) and 'Jack Lemmon' (qv)
in the remake of the film classic _12 Angry Men (1997) (TV)_ (qv)
and the television movies _Garbage Picking Field Goal Kicking
Philadelphia Phenomenon, The (1998) (TV)_ (qv), _Noah (1998) (TV)_
(qv), _Girl Gets Moe, The (1997)_ (qv), _North Shore Fish (1996)
(TV)_ (qv) and _Deadly Whispers (1995) (TV)_ (qv). Danza's
additional stage credits include the Broadway revival of 'Arthur
Miller' (qv)'s Tony Award-winning "A View From the Bridge." His
theatrical debut in "Wrong Turn" at Lungfish earned him an Outer
Critics Circle Award nomination. Among his motion picture credits
are _Angels in the Outfield (1994)_ (qv), _She's Out of Control
(1989)_ (qv), _Brooklyn State of Mind, A (1997)_ (qv), _Glam
(1997)_ (qv) and _Illtown (1996)_ (qv). He also wrote, directed and
starred in the short film _Mamamia (1998)_ (qv) and continues to
garner accolades performing in his song-and-dance stage show, which
debuted in Atlantic City in 1995. He has since taken it on the road
to major venues throughout the country, from Las Vegas to New York.
'Tony Danza' (qv) earned a bachelor's degree in history education
from the University of Dubuque, which he attended on a wrestling
scholarship. Shortly after graduation, he was discovered by a
producer at a boxing gymnasium in New York, and _"Taxi" (1978)_
(qv) rolled into his life. Danza was born in Brooklyn, New York,
and lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Tracy, and three children.
